Don't Get Stuck In The Past

Don't get stuck in the past - The basis of God’s Word for our meditation topic is in the Book of Ezra. Thus says the LORD, “But many priests, Levites, heads of houses, and elders, who saw the first house, said that when the cornerstone of this house was laid before them, my great crowd cried out loudly when I saw it, and there was joy in therein” - (Ezra 3:12).

Everyone has a past. Dark, painful, and even traumatic. Of course, we can't change the past, but we can change our attitude. It could be better, but it could also be the other way around. It all depends on how we look at it.

The past can be a valuable lesson, so it acts like a rudder that guides us in a better direction. But it can also be like a pile of burdens that weigh us down. It can become a huge wall standing in your way.

After 70 years of Babylonian captivity, God’s people returned to Israel under the leadership of Zerubbabel. Then they started rebuilding the temple. As builders laid the foundations of the temple on the original site destroyed by the King of Babylon, priests and Levites were seen accompanying various musical instruments to praise God. They left past sins and mistakes behind and celebrated a new beginning with God.

However, some of them actually cried out loud, remembering the old temple. They are eyewitnesses to the same event. Some are looking forward, and some are looking back.

Luckily, they don't depend on the past. But go ahead and finish the temple. May we rise and walk with God, not be held back by the past.
