Don't Panic

Don’t panic – The foundation of God’s word for the theme of our meditation is taken from the Gospel of Mark. Thus says the Lord, “At that time Jesus was sleeping in the stern using a pillow. Then His disciples woke him up and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we perish?” (Mark 4:38).

Jesus invited the disciples to go across the Sea of Galilee after a day of teaching many people. He was exhausted, so he fell asleep in the stern of the boat when a terrible typhoon hit them. It was no ordinary typhoon because most of His disciples were fishermen and were used to dealing with storms.

Matthew 8:24 refers to it as a “storm”, which is translated from the Greek “seismos”, that is, sea storms caused by earthquakes. In that word, we know seismometers and seismographs, vibration measuring devices, and earthquake vibration recorders. So it’s like a tsunami preparing to wash them away.

Thankfully, when the boat was about to sink, the disciples shouted to Jesus, though in angry tones, “Don’t you care if we perish?” Then he got up and calmed the storm. They were struck with awe of him.

Storms in life can come at any time. The shape also varies. It may be a scary doctor’s diagnosis. The death of a loved one Bankrupt business. Loss of a job. Failed the test. Suffered misfortune. The storm really caught our attention. It makes us think we’re alone with it.

God feels so far away. It can’t be expected. Evil thoughts begin to dominate our minds. He doesn’t care about us. Our lives are beyond His reach. But in such a situation, it is best to still come to Him. When we go through the storm with Him, we will be amazed to see His care and power for us.

Have a good day, keep the spirit, and always rely on the Lord Jesus. May the Lord Jesus bless our lives, families, work, and ministry. Amen
